Fresh into the new year DC Comics
has given us the third installment of
Batman’s animated movie, “Bad Blood.” It contains the story of Batman and the family since the
first movie “Son of Batman” and follows a few months after the events of the
previous movie, “Batman Vs Robin.” The last couple of movies has not been about
Batman. Instead, it focuses on the supporting cast, and charges them with the ominous
task of carrying a movie without their main star, and the question is, can
they?
This movie is not shy on the action.
From beginning to end it throws fights at you left and right. It can
feel a bit dizzying at times with all the
various fight scenes, but after a while,
it settles to the point where you can
still know what’s happening. The more I
watch these movies, the less Batman it
becomes. Sure he’s there, but he doesn't
do much. Cassie Kane, Dick Grayson, Damien Wayne,
and newcomer Luke Fox is the meat and potatoes of the movie.
Obviously,
as in any team based movie, they can’t seem to work together at first. With some well-done trust exercises, they get
their act together and step up to handle their job. There are moments of character and origin
building throughout to introduce lesser known characters without feeling
forced. Except the villains, there was
no explanation of who they were. Only true fans and comic nerds would know who
they are, and even then it doesn't matter.
In the end, it’s worth the watch.
Granted that you will have to watch “Batman Vs Robin” to explain Damien's
appearance in the far east. Other than
that it’s a good look into the bat family as a whole. Watching them earn their ranks and the
respect of Batman is definitely a movie that bat fan have to watch, and in the
end, it sets up good for the next movie down the line.
