Assassin's Creed was a good movie!!

By Corey Floyd

Back in the final months of 2016 Assassin’s Creed was released in theaters. Now I must admit I did not go and see it theaters despite the good trailers that were all over the place. It was still a movie based off a video game. We have seen repeatedly that video games and Hollywood don’t mix.

Let’s look at few House of the Dead, Super Mario, BloodRayne and Resident Evil all horrible films. So naturally I fed into the stigma and I wasn’t alone the movie made 240 million on a 125 budget technically a success but it has a 17% on the “sacred” Rotten Tomatoes website.

Last week I finally sat down and watched the film for myself. I enjoyed it. First of all, you have Michael Fassbinder as the main character.  HE DOESN’T DO BAD MOVIES!!! I double checked. It was very true to what we experience in the first several games but it covered the Spanish Inquisition.

The animus in the film made more sense than the ones in the game. The animus in the film actually moved around with the patient and allowed them to actually move they way they were moving in the memory sequence. It ties into the game seamlessly. I don’t want to give it away but I do urge people to watch this film. I understand how the subgenre has been ran through the mud in the past but this gives new hope that it can be done properly.

Besides ………… they are doing a sequel to the film and I’m looking forward to it. If you’re a fan of the series you’re a fan of the film this I guarantee. Go out grab a copy.  Grade B+
