The DCEU is on life support. That's not an opinion that’s a fact but thankfully DC animation is constantly gracing us with hits here. The first suicide squad animated movie Assault on Gotham was amazing. They used the Gotham game series as the aesthetic for it and it was everything you wanted from a villain led film.
Then we had … yeah, I’m not gonna go there. So let’s get into Hell to pay. First of all the look is very different from the last one. The first film as I said before used the Arkham game series to model all the characters from or at the very least style them like the game would have. This one has adopted the style seen the rest of the DC animated movies. Also, this is NOT a sequel. I know right !!! I say this because Amanda Waller has a slimmer look closer to the film version and Killer Frost is introduced to the group like it's her first time. They also toned down her very sexualized body from the last movie.
The new look is better. Tara Strong has returned as the voice everyone's favorite psycho psychiatrist Harley Quinn. Which was quite refreshing don't get me wrong I did like the other actresses version but nothing beats a classic am I right. Waller's voice is replaced by Vanessa Williams. To be honest I’d rather have CCH Pounder. The story is about Waller dying of something vague but let’s assume it’s some form of cancer and she’s afraid of going to hell. She sends the squad off to find a get out of hell free card.
not the one from the movie but you get it. The team consists of Deadshot, Killer Frost, Harley, Copperhead, Bronze Tiger and Captain Boomerang. They head out and run into a former Doctor Fate now a stripper and find out who has the card. The villains in this one were epic. Randall Savage and his daughter he wants the card because he fears for his life because of metahumans. The funny part is he’s not the biggest threat. This may surprise you cause it surprised the hell outta me.
Yes, he’s back. How well I'm not gonna tell ya cause you need to go out and grab Suicide Squad HELL TO PAY. 4/5rating.
Before I leave I will say this. I think I 've said it before. Studio execs take note there a right and wrong way to do rated r comic films now that SNYDER is out maybe you can talk to the guys over at DC animation cause cleary they make their vision work. Don’t tell its a budget issue cause these DC films have gone balls deep with production money and still turn out shit (excluding Wonder Woman). DCEU could be so much better but they seem set on shooting themselves in the foot. Next Time I will be talking about.
