CHECKING INTO THE HAZBIN HOTEL
As a fellow youtubers I take pride in watching content creators do their thing. From music to independent film and animation. I have seen some amazing feats in the field of computer animation on the platform. There are some great heavy hitters out there… blizzard and those dudes who make the warhammer movies, and let’s not forget the Late Monty Om. But when it comes to regular independent animation …….
it can be exhaustingly bad. Poor animation, bad voice acting or just a bad story all over. We’ve seen them try and fail. So, when someone told me to checkout Hazbin Hotel my first thought naturally was.
So there the link sat in my inbox for months.
During the Quarantine I had a lot of ……………………. free time so I decided to give it
a shot. I was not disappointed. Here is the Hazbin Hotel.
The story takes place in Hell (literally) and the main character name is Charlie and she wants to help sinners become better people. To keep the population from over crowding Angels come down once a year and erase as many sinners as possible. So, in a effort to help sinners get redemption she opens a hotel/ rehab center so sinners and demons can find redemption. I forgot to mention that she is the princess of hell and heir to the throne.
Her character so far is that of a Disney Princes,
she even sings like one in the opening scene. But I don’t think the house of
mouse will add her to the cast because of her eloquent use of the word “fuck”.
Next, we have Angel Dust. He’s an interesting
character to say the least. His name gives you a clue about his life or
afterlife (take your pick). He is currently a resident of the hotel who is
trying to be a better person (whatever that means). There are a fee clues about
his human life that are told in the pilot, but his demon life is that of a
popular porn star. He’ snarky, rude and a barrel of dirty jokes. I like him.
Currently my favorite character. Meet Alastor aka “The radio demon “he arrives at the Halfway point of the Pilot and steals the show. He is a overtop hilarious deal making demon with a great sense of showmanship and presentation. Despite the main color set being some sort of strawberry color that’s not to be fucked with. He is as scary as he is entertaining.
I may
have forgot to mention that all of this is from a pilot. Its available on Youtube.
As a matter a fact here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zlmswo0S0e0
your welcome.
Another thing that blew me away on this show was the music. In one pilot
you get 3 songs in three completely different styles. You get Disney Ballad (not
a real genre but it is in my head), pop/rock and Ragtime and its beautifully
done. The art style is somewhere between invader Zim and Tim Burton. The
animation is on a professional level from what I understand it took three years
to make this happen. I respect the process. The creator of the world is Vivienne
Medrano. Her youtube channel is Vivziepop be sure to check it out she has some
amazing shorts on there including a new music video starring two characters
from the pilot and the song is addictive to say the least. Screw it here’s the
link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulfeM8JGq7s
If you want more you’re gonna have to wait but hopefully not for too much longer, because Hazbin Hotel has been picked up by A24 production company. This company has been behind some of the best reviewed movies over the last few years. They are behind Moonlight , Hereditary and Midsommar I think they are I good hands. Seriously I never been really sold on pilots especially animated ones, I was not sold on Steven Universe pilot, but I was sold on infinity train. At the end of the day both are great. Anyway, I implore you to check it out for yourself. Now I only wonder where it will land to watch my guess
Tell me what
you think in the comment section. See you in Hell!!!
